When we have to think of a very productive band, The Legendary Pink Dots spring to mind right away. They released a lot of albums in the twenty-five years of their existence and besides the regular PinkDot-albums the individual band-members also created a nice pile of solo-albums. These days itx92s near impossible to own a complete collection of Pink Dot-albums. Especially when you just recently got acquainted with their music, but not to worry. A lot of their albums have been re-released or old tracks appeared on other albums. So maybe itx92s impossible to collect The Legendary Pink Dots it certainly is possible to own a ruff selection of the musical history of the band.

Ancient Daze isnx92t a new album of The Pink Dots either. Itx92s a collection of tracks released in the very first days of the band. Very old track one can say, a few tracks of Chemical Playschool 1+2 and a lot of tracks from only dreaming, completed with some unreleased tracks. In other words, the early history of The Legendary Pink Dots is present on this album. The only problem with this album are the tracks itself. TheChemical Playschool-cassettes arenx92t the most interesting pieces of music to have in your collection, neither is Only Dreaming. The tracks donx92t posses the glare and depth the later Pink Dots-tracks have. So Ancient Daze doesnx92t got it either, although is nice that there is finally an album with tracks from theearly days. Tracks that were impossible to add to the collection because these cassettes are long out of print, but I canx92t say there is much need in finding them.

To say it frankly I donx92t get exited from Ancient Daze although I love the music of The Pink Dots. Maybe it would have been better if these tracks had never seen the light of day again. Just to let them be buried in the remains of ancient history. Itx92s nice to hear the first notes and songs of The Legendary Pink Dots once in your lifetime, but I donx92t think one would listen to them ever again.
